Picastro has received comparisons to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Smog, The For Carnation, and Dirty Three.

Metal Cares is Picastro's debut album for Polyvinyl and the band's second full-length.

Commanding influences as varied as gypsy field recordings, Greek rembetika, Russian folksongs, Faces, and Black Sabbath, Toronto's Picastro craft starkly discordant soundscapes where murmured vocals cascade alongside a rich panorama of dissonance and string-laden dynamics.

Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy, Arcade Fire) plays violin.

The Toronto quartet's grasp of instrumental color and dynamics on their new album, Metal Cares (Polyvinyl), is so exquisite and alert that the torpid rhythms feel like part of an elegant high-wire act.

Chicago Reader

It's all so sadly beautiful that it defies depression, resulting in the most uplifting and dynamic downer imaginable.

The Onion

Metal Cares soothes and seduces while also threatening and accusing. Never has catharsis been wrapped in such unassuming garments.

Either you go into this one running all your mental cylinders or don't bother. This is album is too good to do otherwise.

Delusions of Adequacy

Metal Cares is another great release from Polyvinyl. Featuring soft female vocals, gentle acoustic guitars, old pianos, moody string arrangements, and minimalist drums, these combined ingredients are very interesting.
